Part 1
When God gives us a calling or word that isn't what we wanted to hear, our natural response might be to run in the opposite direction, just like Jonah did when commanded to go to Nineveh. However, we cannot escape God's word, His call, or His presence no matter where we go. Our disobedience doesn't just affect us - it creates storms that impact others around us, just as Jonah's rebellion endangered everyone on the ship. The story of John Newton, who wrote Amazing Grace, shows us that God's grace pursues us even in our darkest moments. No matter how far we've run from God's calling, He is actively pursuing us with His love and mercy, waiting for us to stop running away and start running toward Him instead. • Jonah 1:1–5, Jonah 1:11–12
